Will Renal Failure Cause Congestive Heart Failure

There is complicated relationship between renal failure and congestive heart failure which is found in about one-quater of cases of chronic kidney disease. Well, will renal failure cause congestive heart failure?

What is congestive heart failure?

Congestive heart failure means heart can not work properly to supply the body with adequate blood and mainly results from weakened myocardial contract potentiality. There are two types of heart failure which refers to left heart failure and right heart failure. For Chronic Renal Failure patients with left heart failure, they will suffer from symptoms like fatigue, difficult breathing, chest stuffiness, short of breath and wheezing and so on. And for patients with right heart failure, they usually experience edema in legs, poor appetite, nausea, vomit, decreased urine output, frequent urination at night and distention of jugular vein and so on.

Will renal failure cause congestive heart failure?

Heart failure is a common and life-threatening complication of renal failure. According to clinical stastistics, cardiovascular is the major cause of death among renal failure patients and usually, the poorer the kidney condition, the higher risk that renal failure patients develop heart problem. Uncontrolled congestive heart failure is always associated with a rapid fall in renal function. Clinic experiments show that the prevalence of congestive heart failure increases greatly as the patient’s renal function deteriorates and at end stage renal failure, it can reach 65-70%.

How to prevent congestive heart failure with renal failure?

To have an effective prevention about congestive heart failuer, renal failure patients need to:

1. Having a tight control about complications of renal failure like anemia and high blood pressure.

2. Arrange a scientific diet like low-protein diet, low-salt diet and low-phosphorus diet which is beneficial for your recovery.

3. Avoid cold and infection which are the leading two aggravating factors for renal failure.

4. Develop good living habits and try to avoid starying up, drinking alcohol and smoking.

Congestive heart failure is a serious illness conditon and always become the ultimate cause for real failure patient’s death. Therefore, having an effective control about congestive heart failure will help to prolong renal failure patient’s life span.
