Can Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Lead to Kidney Failure

Most of the time, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is harmful and causes no further health. It is an infection that affects part of the urinary tract and it has no direct relationship with kidney. However, in some cases, repeated UTI will lead to kidney failure.

About Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary Tract Infection is more common among woman than man because of their special physical structure. With UTI, we will some discomforts which include:

1. Pain and burning feeling when we urinate.

2. Have frequently urge to urinate, but not much urine comes out when you do.

3. Discomfort or pressure in the lower abdomen.

4. Cloudy urine with bad smell.

5. Pain in the pelvic area or back

6. Also, fever may occur in some cases.

About kidney failure

Kidney failure is a serious illness condition in which kidneys are unable in maintaining patient’s life. With end stage kidney failure, dialysis or kidney transplant will be needed to remove toxins in patient’s blood which is normally done by our kidney. Otherwise, the toxins circulate with blood and threaten any part of patient’s organ. Chronic kidney failure can not be cured, but with effective and timely treatment, the progression of kidney disease can be stopped and end stage kidney failure can be avoided effectively.

How Urinary Tract Infection lead to kidney failure?

Usually, urinary tract infection are harmless and can be cured easily. However, repeated UTI often turn into pyelonephritis which is an inflammation of the kidney. Inflammation in the kidney worsen renal tissues seriously and thus cause kidney damages. Chronic kidney disease causes no obvious symptoms in early stage, so it is found to be founded timely. Without a timely diagnosis, chronic kidney problem progresses to end stage kidney failure directly.

Lastly, since frequently Urinary Tract Infection can cause kidney disease directly, it is necessary for us to prevent it in advance. Clinical experiments have shown that drinking large amounts of water will help to remove bacterium out of the urinary tract, which will lower the risk of developing kidney failure. Therefore, drinking much more water is very beneficial in our daily life.
