Diet To Reduce Creatinine Level In Blood

2013-06-04 10:20

Diet plays an important part for people with high creatinine level in blood. Lowering serum creatinine level means getting far away from dialysis and kidney transplant. Well, for kidney failure patients, what is the diet to reduce creatinine level in blood?

Dietary Principles

Dietary principle for kidney failure patients differ from individual to individual, as it is closely based on patients’ exact illness condition. In general, kidney failure patients need to limit protein intake and salt intake, as ingesting too much salt and protein will increase kidney burden, and thus cause further rise of creatinine level. Besides, for patients with electrolyte imbalance, they also need to adjust their potassium intake, phosphorus intake and calcium intake and so on according to their lab tests.

Meal Planning

Although kidney failure patients need to limit their protein intake, they do need to add some high quality protein in their daily diet. High quality protein contain essential amino-acid which can not be synthesized in our body. In our daily diet, major sources of high quality protein include fish, lean meat, milk and egg white.

Fluid Intake

Some kidney failure patients, especially these who are on dialysis, need to adjust their fluid intake, so as to avoid unnecessary problems. For these with fluid limitation, they need to add their soup intake into the total amount of their fluid intake. Also, try to avoid eating too much fruits and vegetables high in water like melon and tomatoes and so on.

Warm Tips

Creatinine level is normally kept in a stable range through kidney. Although improper diet can cause fluctuation of serum creatinine level, but creatinine level usually still stays in the normal range. In cases of kidney failure, creatinine level increases because kidneys are damaged and impaired kidney function fail to discharge excess creatinine. Therefore, improving kidney function is the key point to reduce creatinine in blood for kidney failure patients. (Leave message to to get detailed information about how to improve kidney function)
