What Does It Mean By Creatinine 2.6 In Medical TestIf lab tests show your serum creatinine is 2.6, you must realize it is abnormal, as reference value of creatinine in blood is 0.5-1.3. Serum creatinine 2.6 is much higher than the normal range, and it may indicate serious health problem. Well then, what does it mean by creatinine 2.6 in medical test?

First of all, it is necessary for us to know about that creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine which is an important part of muscle. In normal condition, creatinine level in blood is kept in the range 0.5-1.3. When much more creatinine is produced at one time, kidneys will help to excess creatinine through urine. Therefore, kidney plays a crucial role in keeping serum creatinine in normal range. Also, this is the reason why people with kidney disease are always told to have elevated creatinine level in blood.

Creatinine level in blood increases when excessive creatinine which should have been discharged by kidney pile up in blood, so once being told to have creatinine 2.6, we should be alert about our kidney condition and try to found out if it is caused by kidney damages.

Besides, medical studies show that serum creatinine level usually does not increase until a half of kidney function gets impaired. Therefore, sometimes, slightly high serum creatinine level may indicate serious kidney problems. For creatinine 2.6 caused by kidney problem, although it is not high enough for kidney disease patients to start dialysis or kidney transplant, but if not treated effectively, illness condition will deteriorate to kidney failure stage quickly. On the contrary, if effective treatment is given in such a case, there is great chance for patients to avoid dialysis and kidney transplant which are necessary but torturous for end stage kidney failure patients.

Lastly, kidney problem is just one of the causes for elevated creatinine level, so it is necessary to have further examination to found out what is the roto cause of this problem and if it is caused by kidney disease, both medical treatment and dietary therapy will be needed.
