2013-03-25 15:24

urine test kidney failureRoutine urine test is a necessary preliminary examination in clinic for detecting early kidney disease or urinary tract diseases. In the early stage of many kidney diseases, there will be proteins in urine, occult blood or other visible components of urine sediments.

Urine abnormalities are often the first sign of kidney problems, therefore more importance should be attached to routine urine test. Urine test will be ordered in routine physical examinations and it often helps find kidney problem. For those that already have kidney disease, it is recommended that routine urine is done regularly to see how their kidneys are functioning. Urine test is very simple but very helpful.

How to analyze the test report of urine routine

The indicators in routine urine test report include PH, urine specific gravity, urobilinogen, occult blood, white blood cells, urine protein, urine sugar, bilirubin, ketone, red blood cell, urine color.

The normal level of urine PH is 4.6-8.0 (the average value being 6.0). If PH is high than the normal range, it can be due to nausea, vomiting, respiratory alkalosis, etc. Low PH is often found in acidosis, chronic glomerulonephritis, diabetes, etc.

Specific gravity

The normal value is 1.015-1.025. Elevated urine specific gravity can be caused by high fever, heart problem, diabetes; lowered specific gravity are caused by chronic glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis, etc.

Normally it is below 16. If urobilinogen is higher than 16, it means jaundice.

Occult blood

If it is positive and at the same time there is proteinuria, it might be kidney disease or hemorrhage.

White blood cell

More than 5 white blood cell in urine means there is urinary tract infections.

Proteinuria is positive means there is acute glomerulonephritis or diabetic kidney disease.

Urine sugar

Urine sugar positive indicates diabetes, hyperthyroidism, acromegaly, etc.

Bilirubin positive can be caused by jaundice.

Ketone positive indicates acidosis, diabetes, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

Urine red blood cells

If it is positive, it can be tumors in urinary tract, kidney infections or urinary tract infections.

Urine color

Normal urine is light yellow to deep yellow. If the urine is frothy, red or cloudy, it means there are some problems in the kidneys or urinary system.
