I am a patient with kidney failure. Recently I did a blood test and my creatinine level goes up to 8.5. My doctor recommended me to do dialysis. Does creatinine 8.5 in kidney failure need dialysis?
I am glad to receive your email . Your creatinine leve is far beyond the normal level and dialysis is often used to discharge the extra toxins in blood. But not once creatinine level is elevated, dialysis is needed. Some patients do not need dialysis even if the creatinine level reaches to 9 or 10mg/dl or even higher. It is depends on your illness condition.
If you are accompanied by serious symptoms like nausea, vomit, muscle cramps, sleepiness, heavy swelling, etc, dialysis is suggested.
But if you still have urine and there is no obvious symptoms, such as high blood pressure, water-sodium retention and heart failure, dialysis can be postponed.
What you should be noticed is that if your potassium level is higher than 6.5mmol/l and it can not be controlled by medicines, you should take dialysis treatment immediately. Besides, if you are attacked by metabolic acidosis, and the PH is lower than 7.2, dialysis is urgently needed.
Since I do not understand your condition well, I cannot make a conclusion, you can send your medical report to firstname.lastname@example.org, after I reading your report, I will give you a reply. Or you can consult your doctor and get a better understanding about your own condition. Good luck to you!
