Do I Need Dialysis with Creatinine 6.8

2014-03-17 02:10

Questions: I am lucky to find Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital on the website. I am a patient with stage 4 kidney disease and now my creatinine is elevated to 6.8mg/dl. My doctor suggested me to do Dialysis. I want to know that do I need dialysis with creatinine 6.8? Is there any other solution in terms of my condition? To be honest, I do not want to take dialysis. I hope that you can give me some help. Thank you!

Answers: Glad to know you! Since your are in stage 4 kidney disease, your kidney functions have already been severely damaged. Creatinine 6.8 is also an indicator of kidney problems. Actually, your creatinine is much higher than the normal level, which is 0.5-1.2mg/dl. Creatinine is the metabolic waste that should be filtered by kidneys. When it accumulates in blood to a certain level, many problems will occur. Normally, dialysis will be used to lower high creatinine level and relieve symptoms in western countries.

However, sometimes, dialysis is not necessary. Starting dialysis too early will do harm to kidneys on the contrary. Because I do not have a clear understanding of your illness condition, I cannot give you an exact answer. Whether you need dialysis or not depends on your own condition. Next, I will tell you on what condition is dialysis needed.

-If your kidney function declines to 15%, you need to start dialysis.

-If you are troubled by serious symptoms, like heavy swelling, nausea, vomit, acidosis, heart failure, pulmonary edema, sleepiness, etc, dialysis is needed.

-If your potassium level is higher than 6.5mmol/l, urgent dialysis is needed.

What is your condition now? If you are not sure, you can send me your medical report to kidneyfailuretreat@hotmail.com. After I study your condition, I will give you a specific explanation. Best wishes!
