1. Low in protein

Kidney stops protein from being leaked while filtering blood. When kidney function gets impaired, it fails to function properly, which can lead to a severe leakage of protein in urine. Usually, the more protein that patients ingest, the more protein in urine. For this reason, foods that IgA Nephropathy patients eat must be low in protein. Besides, they can ingest some high quality protein like egg white, lean meat, fish and milk and so on.

2. Low in sodium

High sodium not only elevates blood pressure, but also triggers swelling. Seeing from this point of view, reducing sodium intake will be very necessary. Salt is the most common source of sodium in our daily life, so try to add less salt while cooking.

3. Low in potassium

The most common low potassium foods include canned pear nectar, sweetened cranberry sauce, canned peach nectar, raw alfalfa sprouts, cooked leeks, boiled collards, boiled eggplant, peeled cucumber, cooked lean beef, cooked ham, bread, bun, cooked cereal and so on. For IgA Nephropathy patients, although these foods are low in potassium, it is important to monitor the serving size of what they are eating.

4. Low in phosphorus

High phosphorus level in the body restrain our body from adsorbing enough calcium, which can cause a series of bone problems like bone pain, bone fracture and even osteoporosis. Therefore, foods that IgA Nephropathy patients eat must be low in phosphorus.
