What Can I Eat On Kidney DialysisWhat can I eat on kidney dialysis? For kidney failure patients on dialysis, eating the right foods is an important part of their treatment. Improper diet not only worsens their kidney condition, but also brings unnecessary trouble for their regular dialysis. For this reason, knowing what to eat is very important.

Dialysis is a medical procedure in which a machine is used to replace the kidney filter blood outside the body. It only purify blood and can not repair kidney, so kidney failure can not be cured or improved after dialysis. Because of this, there are many things in common about the diet for kidney failure patients on dialysis and these who have not started dialysis. Well then, what can a dialysis patient eat on earth?

Foods with high quality protein: When it comes to kidney dialysis, protein is a nutrition that we have to mention. This nutrition plays an important role for our body to run normally. However, for kidney failure patients who are on dialysis, they suffer from protein insufficiency easily, as protein can be filtered out during dialysis. High quality protein contains essential amino-acid which can offer the substances needed by our body and meanwhile produce less wastes. From this point of view, high quality protein foods like egg white and fish can be added into the daily diet by dialysis patients.

Low potassium foods: High potassium foods include apricots, fresh, avocado, banana, cantaloupe, dates, dried fruits, figs, guava, honeydew, kiwi, mango, nectarines, oranges, chocolate milk, cocoa, hot chocolate, milkshakes, pudding, yogurt, artichoke, beets, raw carrot, collard greens, french fries, greens, beet, potato, leached, pumpkin, spinach, squash, sun dried tomatoes, sweet potato and swiss chard and so on. For dialysis patients, only these with high levels of potassium need to avoid the above foods. In daily life, they can eat some low potassium foods, but remember to limit the amount. Low potassium foods include breads, bagels, cookies, corn chips, apples, applesauce, apricots, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, canned peaches and peach nectar and so on. Low phosphorus foods: Avoid high phosphorus foods like trout, tuna, lamb, salmon, clams, cod, crab, halibut, sardines, cornbread, golden grahams, frosted mini-wheats if lab test shows elevated phosphorus level in blood. Foods low in phosphorus like bread, feta cheese, potatoes, cabbage, beets, lettuce, onions and tomatoes and fish are usually recommended.

Low-salt diet: for kidney failure patients, all of them need to limit salt intake no matter they has started dialysis or not. Salt is rich in sodium and high salt intake not only elevates blood pressure, but also cause fluid retention. Therefore, it is very beneficial for kidney failure patients to avoid processed foods, pickled foods and add less salt while cooking.

What can a dialysis patient eat is based on his exact illness condition very much. Therefore, it is really hard to give a food list that is suitable for all the dialysis patients. But please do not worry, here we offer online service and you can consult our consultant directly for the proper diet.
