Nephrotic Syndrome causes kidney failure directly

Nephrotic Syndrome is diagnosed when patients have large amounts of protein in urine (usually no less than 3.5g/d), swelling, hyperlipidaemia and hypoproteinemia. It indicates glomerulus is damaged and filtration function is impaired seriously.
GFR is the common medical index used to reflect kidney function and the normal range of it is 100 to 130. For people with kidney problem, usually the higher the GFR is,the better the kidney function. Glemerular filtration function decides patient's Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) directly, so for patients with Nephrotic Syndrome, the severity of their symptoms usually reflects their GFR.
According to international standard, end stage kidney disease or we can say chronic kidney disease stage 3 is diagnosed when GFR decreases to 15. Therefore, for Nephrotic Syndrome patients, if they do not control their symptoms effectively, their kidney function will become poorer and poorer and also their GFR will be lower and lower.
In cases of Nephrotic Syndrome, all the symptoms of proteinuria, swelling, hyperlipidaemia and hypoproteinemia are related and the last three can be caused by great loose of protein in urine. Therefore, if want to remit these symptoms, we must get proteinuria controlled firstly.
Lastly, since Nephrotic Syndrome is marked by massive protein in urine, patients with proteinuria should be alert about kidney failure, and try to prevent it by taking some effective medical measures.
