2013-01-19 16:14

headacheBesides high blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, reduced urine output, anemia, blood in urine, protein in urine, swelling, skin itching, muscle cramps, back pain, almost all renal failure patients have symptoms of nervous systems especially for those that are in the end stage of renal failure and have begun dialysis treatment. These nervous symptoms include headache, low energy, fatigue and dizziness.

We will first discuss why renal failure will cause headache so that we can know better how to alleviate it according to different causes.

The accumulation of neurotoxins in the body, water and electrolyte disorder, imbalance of acid-base can cause blood circulation obstacle in the brain and metabolic disorder in the brain and peripheral nerve cells. This can cause headache.

Alleviation is to discharge these toxins and rectify water, electrolytes and acid-base imbalances. Peritoneal dialysis and adsorbent dialysis can alleviate headache in this case.

Dialysis can easily cause disequilibrium syndrome and patients will have headache, nausea, consciousness disturbance within hours after dialysis. Report it to the doctor and adjust the dialysis, headache can be alleviated.

Many renal failure patients suffer from general ill feeling, sever swelling, restless leg syndrome, muscle cramp, skin itching, sleep apnea syndrome, etc, all these conditions will affect their sleep quality at nights. As a result, they can not fall asleep at nights and will feel headache, depression and lethargy during the daytime.

Patients suffering from headache often resort to painkiller or over-the-counter medicines. These medicines do have quick and obvious relief of headache especially in the beginning. However if the root cause of headache is not treated, patients will have constant headache and they have to take the medicines from time to time. However long term intake of these medicines has been improved to have more harms than benefits to the body if they are taken in large dosage for quite a long time.

Therefore the most fundamental and also most effect relief for headache is to treat renal failure and try to avoid dialysis.

The following are some simple ways that can help relieve headache.

Regular physical exercises. Proper physical exercises can promote metabolism and revitalization so as to promote blood circulation. Exercises can also help relieve stress and nervousness which are also factors causing headache.

Massage and acupuncture. Rubbing or stimulating certain acupuncture points can help alleviate headache.

Medicated bath. Medicated bath has a lot of benefits to the body---alleviating fatigue, improving sleep quality, relieving stressful feeling and headache.
