Chronic Renal Failure Caused by Polycystic Kidney Disease

2013-01-06 11:03

Chronic renal failure is a medical state in which part or all kidney functions have been damaged. Many chronic kidney diseases can cause renal failure such as glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis, gout kidney, IgA nephropathy, membraneous nephropathy, polycystic kidney disease as well as many other illness conditions such as hypertension, diabetes purpura and lupus.

Here we mainly talk about chronic renal failure caused by genetic renal cystic disorder---polycystic kidney disease.

PKD is characterized by multiple fluid-filled sacs in the kidneys. It is a chronically progressive disease along with the gradual growth and enlargement of these cysts and the kidneys. These abnormal cysts will oppress and replace normal renal tissues, alter renal structures and damage renal functions and in the end lead to kidney failure.

Thought there is at present no complete cure for PKD due to its heredity, it takes relatively longer time to develop into chronic renal failure compared with other causes. Therefore it provides more time for effective treatments and preventions which can help slow down the cyst growth and enlargement so as to slow down its progression into end stage and strive more time for more advanced and promising therapies.

High blood pressure is the main symptom of PKD and there are half PKD patients develop high blood pressure even when their kidney functions are still normal. High blood pressure is also one major worsening factor of PKD and well control of blood pressure can help much relieve clinical symptoms and discomforts and slow down illness progression and decline rate of kidney functions.

Many end stage PKD patients die of cardiovascular complications and infections instead of chronic renal failure itself, therefore early prevention and control of its symptoms and complications is important.

Of cause, one important aspect for delaying renal failure in PKD is to control the cyst growth which is the very root reason of kidney failure. At present there is one external application of Chinese medicines called Micro-Chinese medicine which has good effects on slowing down cyst growth rate and shrinking the cysts. It is not surgery and has no additional pains or injury to the kidney and body.
