For renal failure patients, this symptom may occur at any time of the day, but often at night. It disturbs patients’ sleep and affect them from having a good rest. Renal failure is a general term used to describe the final result of all kinds of kidney problem. It is a severe illness condition and may involve all the body systems. Therefore, renal failure patients may suffer from restless leg syndrome due to different factors:

1. Iron deficiency: Kidneys are in charge of adjust mineral store in blood. For people with renal failure, their kidneys fail to function properly and under a condition, iron store in blood can decreased. In renal failure. irone deficiency is often accompanied with anemia. When this condition become severe enough, restless leg syndrome will be caused.

2. Diabetes: For patients with renal failure caused by Diabetes, they are more likely to suffer from restless leg syndrome. Diabetes not only affects kidney, but also damage nerves. When nerves are injured due to persistent high blood sugar, restless leg syndrome may occur.

3. Low levels of PTH (Parathyroid Hormone): Low PTH is another cause for renal failure patients to suffer from restless leg syndrome. To avoid bone problems, renal failure patients have to monitor their PTH level to make sure it is not too high. Improper management may cause PTH and thus trigger restless leg syndrome.

4. Neurologic and psychiatric drugs: Clinical observation reveals renal failure patients with neurologic and psychiatric drugs are more likely to suffer from restless leg syndrome.

Restless leg syndrome is just one of the clinical manifestations of renal failure. Aside from it, patients may also experience, bone pain, bone fracture, insomnia, nausea, vomiting and itching skin and so on. All these symptoms can be caused by different conditions or factors, so it is of great importance for renal failure patients to found out the root cause firstly and then take corresponding measures.
